BilbaoGeneral Information about BilbaoFound in the Northern parts of Spain Bilbao was originally established as a village in 1300, but is now the most populated city within the Basque Country. A large portion of Bilbao is ideally located along the Bay of Biscay, which is connected to the North Atlantic Ocean. Bilbao is the host city of the Biscay province and is closely neighboured by San Sebastian at a distance of 98 miles.
Another notable natural feature that is impossible to miss when you are visiting Bilbao is the River Nervion. Stretching across the River Nervion is the Zubizuri Bridge which is a well used pedestrian footbridge. But it is the Guggenheim Museum that is the most recognisable monument located along the River Nervion which is well known for its unique design and has been constructed from titanium, limestone and glass.
The Guggenheim Museum was originally built back in 1997 which is the same year as the Zubizuri Bridge and features many changing exhibitions and is one of the city's most visited attractions. Located just outside the museum is the remarkable structure which is known as the Flower Puppy. The Flower Puppy is 12.4 metres in height and is the most colourful puppy you will see with thousands of flowers growing through the steel frame.
Bilbao is well connected with the rest of Spain and Europe with regular flights landing at the Bilbao-Loiu Airport. It is also possible to travel to Bilbao via bus, car or train with regular trains arriving from many destinations such as San Sebastian, Barcelona and Madrid.
