General Information about Funchal

Situated on the island of Madeira, Funchal is the capital of the Madeira Islands and is home to approximately, 150,000 people. Funchal has been inhabited since as far back as the 1400s and is very much a modern city. Funchal is a charming town with features some beautiful displays of colonial style architecture.

Funchal is the ideal getaway destination and can easily be explored on foot. While you are there be sure to visit the Sé Cathedral which dates back to 1486. Funchal also features a amazing museum that should not be missed and is known as Quinta das Cruzes on Calcada do Pico. There are many outdoor activities to do while you are here ranging from cruises to walking tours to bird watching.
