Since its separation from Serbia in 2006 Montenegro is now a republic country and celebrates its independence day on the 3th of June. The two country's never had a joint capital and their only connection was in particular political areas. The separation of the two country's is thought of as an end of the former Yugoslavia. There is much to see and do in Montenegro with its amazing wealth of natural beauty not to mention its fantastic cultural events. Montenegro's climate varies greatly for such a small country, with a coastal zone, continental zone, and a mountain zone. The coastal region enjoys a Mediterranean climate where summers are long and dry while winters are short and mild. July is the warmest month to visit with averages of 28 degrees while the winter months can see temperatures dropping as low as 9 degrees. Winter in the mountains are cold and snowy with averages of 3 degrees and lows of -8 degrees while summer averages between 23 and 9 degrees.

Montenegro can be located in Southern part of the Balkan peninsula and shares its borders with Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Kosovo. The total land mass is 13,812 square kilometres with a coastline of 199 kilometres. Montenegro's capital is Podgorica and has a population of over 620,000. Montenegro is home to one of the most beautiful bays in the Mediterranean the Boka Kotorska.

The winter months in Montenegro come to life with many winter festivals but one in particular is 'Vrela Zima U Brdima' which means Hot Winter In The Hills. The months are filled with sport and cultural events, and many performances and is an event not to be missed. Held at Podgorica the annual International Music Festival goes for several days and attracts locals and foreign visitors held in April.
