Luxembourg

General Information about Luxembourg

Luxembourg is a small landlocked country in Central Europe, with France on its Southern border, Belgium to West and Germany to North. It has a population of 500000 and its capital is also called Luxembourg. It has two quite distinct geographical regions with afforestation in the northern third and with rolling farmland and some woods in the other part of the country. Luxembourg has a moderate climate with no real extremes.

There something for everyone in this small country, from the spectacular views from the Citadelle du St Espirit in Chemin de la Corniche, to the 1000 years in 100 minutes Wenzel walk through Luxembourg's oldest quarters, to wine tasting in the Moselle valley. Luxembourg is also known as a bikers paradise with many varied scenic cycle routes throughout the countryside.

Accommodation ranges from camping sites throughout Luxembourg, with youth hostels to five star hotels.

May through to September are the best months to visit Luxembourg with mild weather conditions with averages of 17+ degrees. Winters are cold with low of zero degrees with January being the coldest. Luxembourg can experience evenly distributed rain full throughout the year although August is the wettest month.

Most of Luxembourg's economy comes from the industrial industry with steel being the most important. Banking, iron, food processing, chemicals, metal products and chemicals also play an important role in the country's economy. The agricultural industry only accounts for approximately 1 percent with the most popular produces being barley, wheat, potatoes, oats and rye. These are mainly farmed by family owned businesses. The official currency of Luxembourg used to be the Luxembourg franc but was taken over by the Euro back in 2002.
