Located within the state of Carinthia is the states capital of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee. Known as Klagenfurt for short this historical city has been inhabited since the 12th century. Home to over 93,000 residents Klagenfurt is Austria's sixth largest city after Innsbruck.

The city of Klagenfurt is centrally located and is just over two hours away from Salzburg and three hours away from Vienna. Klangenfurt is also easily accessible from many other European cities.

While you are visiting Klagenfurt be sure to visit the Old City which is where one of the official stadiums for the European Football Championships of 2008 is located and is known as the Hypo-Arena.

Be sure to visit the Lindwurm Fountain which is set within the heart of Klagenfurt. The Lindwurm which dates back to the 16th century with the head of the lindworm depicting a glacial rhinoceros head.
